NL MVP meets AL MVP? Bellinger to the Yankees in the spotlight

Interest in Cody Bellinger, 28, the biggest free agent outfielder in baseball, is heating up.

The Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and San Francisco Giants are the top three destinations for Bellinger, according to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball (MLB). John Heyman of the New York Post predicted that Bellinger “will ultimately join one of the three teams, probably the Cubs or Yankees. Heyman revealed earlier this week that “the Yankees are investigating the top end of the batting market,” naming Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto and Bellinger as potential targets, with Bellinger being the most likely.

Bellinger, the 2017 National League (NL) Rookie of the Year, hit 47 home runs and 115 RBIs in 2019, earning NL MVP honors. He established himself as a superstar for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his performance plummeted in 2020. In 2021, he batted just .165 in 95 games. Last year, he also underperformed, hitting .210 with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs. He left the Dodgers after the season and joined the Cubs. It was a wingless fall from grace for the former MVP, but he rebounded in a Cubs uniform.

Bellinger’s stat line for the season was .307 (153-for-499) with 26 home runs and 97 RBIs in 130 games. He’s also stolen 20 bases, reemerging as an all-around offensive force. In the last three days, he was named NL Comeback Player of the Year. He said, “I worked hard all offseason to prepare. I wanted to show what I could do,” he said. “I’m glad I was able to go out there and do it for myself and my family. I’ve learned a lot this year.”

In a Yankees uniform, he’ll be joined by “The Home Run King” Aaron Judge. Judge played in 157 games last year, batting .311 (177-for-570) with 62 home runs and 131 RBIs. He won the AL MVP award after breaking the American League (AL) record for most home runs in a single season (61), set by Roger Maris in 1961. In a season plagued by nagging injuries, he still managed to hit .267 (98-for-367) with 37 homers and 75 RBIs in 106 games. 아톰카지노 도메인
