Could English Premier League (EPL) side Tottenham Hotspur be in the market for a new center back?
“Tottenham are not interested in signing Galatasaray defender Victor Nelson in January,” according to Football Insider.
After conceding 63 goals in the league last season, good for sixth most in the league, Tottenham’s defense has turned around this season. Freshman Mickey van der Penn and vice-captain Christian Romero have formed a fantastic partnership to stabilize the defense. The Spurs have conceded just nine goals in the league this season. 토토사이트
While van der Vaart and Romero have become two of the best center backs in the league, their defensive problems are not completely solved. Spurs don’t have enough backup options behind van der Penn and Romero. Eric Dier hasn’t started a single game this season after being left out of Enze Postecoglou’s plans. Ashley Phillips is only 18 years old and lacks first-team experience. Davinson Sanchez has left for Turkkiye Galatasaray.
One defender who has been linked with Tottenham is the Danish Nelson. Standing at 6-foot-2, Nelson made his debut in the Danish Superliga Nordsjylland. He made 45 official appearances in the 2021/22 season after moving to Turkkiye Galatasaray in August 2021. He made 35 appearances last season, but the arrival of Sanchez has reduced his role.
Nelson was linked with Tottenham in the summer transfer window. The Spurs, who were in need of defensive reinforcements, tried to sign Nelson but the deal fell through. Later, Galatasaray’s coach said he regretted not making a move for Nelson in the summer, according to Turkish outlet TUMSPOR. Nelson also expressed his anger at the lack of a move to Tottenham, saying he was “angry and tired”.
“Galatasaray have set a price tag of between €15 million and €20 million ($21.2 million) for Nelson,” TeamTalk reported on March 31. With Galatasaray looking to sell Nelson, it was expected that Tottenham would approach, but the likelihood of Nelson joining Spurs has decreased. According to TeamTalk, AC Milan are reportedly targeting Nelson.
