Merrill Kelly, 35, of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been named the starting pitcher for Game 2 of the World Series (WS).
“Kelly will start Game 2 of the WS for Arizona, ESPN reported on Sunday. Rookie Brandon Phat will start Game 3 at home.”
Game 2 of the WS will be played on June 29 at 9:03 a.m. at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
It will be the first time in five years that Kelly has pitched in a final postseason series as a professional. Kelly, who played in the KBO from 2015 to 2018, compiled a 48-32 record with a 3.86 ERA in his final year, pitching in Game 3 and Game 6 of the 2018 Korean Series, going 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 12⅓ innings to help the SK Wyverns (now the SSG Landers) win the title.토스카지노
In 2019, his first full year in the big leagues, Kelly went 13-14 with a 4.42 ERA, making him the first KBO pitcher to be exported from the league. Following a 13-8 record with a 3.37 ERA last year, Kelly has been a solid starting pitcher for Arizona this season with a 12-8 record and a 3.29 ERA, and he’s done just as well in fall ball, his first taste of the big leagues.
In Game 1 of the Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kelly bounced back from a rough outing against the Dodgers to earn his first win in fall ball with 6 1/3 innings of three-hit ball, two walks and five strikeouts. In the Championship Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, he took a tough loss in Game 2 (5⅔ innings, three runs, three hits, three homers, six walks and four strikeouts), but bounced back in Game 6 with five innings of three-hit, eight-strikeout, one-run ball to save his team from elimination. With Kelly’s performance turning the tide, Arizona won Game 7 to advance to the WS.
Kelly, who won a championship ring in Korea five years ago, will be looking to add to his collection on a bigger stage. Arizona will be looking to win their first WS title in 22 years, since 2001 when Byung-hyun “BK” Kim played for them.
