Anthony signs extension.
ESPN reported on Thursday (Nov. 24) that the Orlando Magic have signed guard Cole Anthony to a three-year, $39 million contract extension. The final year of Anthony’s contract is under a team option.
The son of former guard Greg Anthony, who played 11 seasons in the NBA, Cole Anthony was drafted by Orlando with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 draft. A top prospect coming out of high school, Anthony was considered a top-two pick, but his stock plummeted after college and he was pushed out of the roundabout.도메인
As a pro, he was given plenty of opportunities as a starter in a rebuilding Orlando team. He was less reliable, but his explosive offense was second to none on the team.
In his last season as a bench scorer, he appeared in 60 games and averaged 25.9 minutes per game, averaging 13.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. He shot 45.4% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range, showing a significant improvement in efficiency after coming off the bench.
In addition to Anthony, Orlando also has young guards in Markelle Fultz and Jaylen Suggs, and with the sixth and 11th picks in the first round, respectively, they selected backcourt resources Anthony Black and Jett Howard.
However, Orlando recognized Anthony’s value and decided to sign him to an extension, despite having a plethora of young guard options. With a more relaxed approach to the season, Anthony is expected to start the regular season opener against Houston on Nov. 26.
