In the ensuing defense, Gausman hit a tying solo home run from Edward Olavarez in the top of the fifth inning with no runners and two outs. However, Toronto’s batting lineup opened up scoring opportunities with Alejandro Kirk walking and Dalton Basho hitting a double, and Springer, who came in with two outs, hit a heavy hit and brought two runners home.

It was Springer’s third RBI of the game. It wasn’t the end. Springer added one RBI by hitting a home run over the right-center wall against opposing pitcher Angel Zerpa in the bottom of the 7th inning when Toronto was up 4-1 with one more run.

Toronto then sealed the victory by blocking the Kansas City batting lineup without allowing any additional runs. Gausman became the winning pitcher, allowing 2 hits and 1 run in 8 innings. He earned his 11th win (8 losses) of the season.
