Brazilian soccer star Philippe Coutinho, who once topped the list of highest transfer fees in history, is heading to Qatar.
Al Duhail announced the signing of Coutinho on loan from Aston Villa on Monday (Sept. 9) via the club’s website. The deal is for one year through the 2023-24 season.
Al Duhail is a prestigious Qatari club that has reached the top of the Stars League eight times. He also has ties to South Korea. In 2012, Nam Tae-hee (Yokohama F.Marinos) played there for a long time, starting with his former club Requiem. Currently, national team fullback Kim Moon-hwan plays there.
After Nam’s contract expired, Al Duhail looked for a replacement for the attacking role. In search of a big-name striker, Al Duhail managed to get Coutinho on loan for a season. Coutinho, who most recently played for Villa in the English Premier League, will now move to Asia.스포츠토토
Coutinho once commanded an astronomical price tag. When Barcelona signed Coutinho from Liverpool in January 2018, the total transfer fee paid to Liverpool was 160 million euros (about KRW 228.9 billion). The base transfer fee alone was worth €120 million, with options worth €40 million and €57.2 million all triggered.
Coutinho was a player who could work magic on the pitch. Playing as a wing-forward as well as up front, Coutinho’s ability to set up his teammates’ goals and finish them himself was remarkable, especially his winding runs from the flanks into the center.

I didn’t get my money’s worth. Coutinho was looking forward to life in Barcelona. As Coutinho struggled to compete for a starting spot, he was sent out on loan to Bayern Munich in the middle of his contract, not exactly a signing worthy of a top transfer fee. After returning to Barcelona, Coutinho failed to resurrect his career and was eventually labeled a fraud.
He eventually left Barcelona for Villa. Coutinho was looking to bounce back in the familiar Premier League. When he first joined Villa, he showed signs of life. However, his sparkle soon faded, and he scored just six goals in 43 games for Aston Villa.
What’s more, Coutinho’s durability deteriorated during his time at Barcelona. His nagging injuries made it difficult for him to compete at the highest level. He decided to move to Qatar, where he will try to rebuild his career in Asia.
