Roberto Mancini, who led the Italian national football team to victory at Euro 2020, has resigned.
The Italian Football Federation announced on its official website on the 13th (local time) that Mancini has resigned as head coach of the Italian national team. Transfer market reporter Fabrizio Romano also reported the same through his personal social media account.
Having started his managerial career at Fiorentina, Mancini joined Inter Milan in July 2004. At Inter, he won seven trophies before taking charge of Manchester City in December 2009. Mancini gave Manchester City their first league title in 44 years in the 2011/12 season, laying the foundation for Manchester City to rise to its current position.
After parting ways with Manchester City in May 2013, he returned to Inter in November 2014 via Turkiye Galatasaray. Despite reuniting with Inter, he failed to win a single title. After Mancini’s poor performance, Inter terminated his contract by mutual agreement in August 2016. Mancini took over as manager of the Italian national team in May 2018.
The start was good. The Italian national team under the Mancini system continued their 37 match unbeaten streak from October 2018 to October 2021. During this period, the Italy national team won the Euro 2020 final by defeating England 3-2 on penalties. Italy won the Euro for the first time in 53 years, since 1968.안전놀이터
It seemed to announce Italy’s splendid revival by reaching the top of Euro 2020, but that was it. Italy suffered a 0-1 shock defeat to North Macedonia in the semifinals of the European qualifying playoffs for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and failed to participate in the World Cup. Following the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Italy suffered the humiliation of not being able to participate in the World Cup for the second time in a row.
Despite failing to qualify for the World Cup, Mancini remained as manager, but according to the British ‘Guardian’, he came under heavy pressure from the Italian press. After Italy lost 2-1 to England in their first match of Euro 2024 qualifiers, Mancini resigned as Italy manager. The Italian Football Federation announced that it would appoint Mancini’s successor within days.
